Most people want to eat the candy once piece at a time, making the candy last until Christmas time. However, this is not tooth smart. If you want healthy teeth and you are going to eat candy; it is best to consume the candy in one sitting then brush your teeth at a later time.
When you eat sugary sweets, the bacteria feed on the sugars, and make acid. This acid is harmful to your teeth. The acid in plaque then wears away at your tooth enamel, forming tiny holes you know as cavities. The more time your teeth are covered in sugar, the more opportunities for bacteria to eat.
Today is November 1st, National Tooth Brushing Day!!
You can help protect you teeth by brushing them 30 minutes after you eat candy.
So, if you eat a bunch of candy at once, then give your teeth a good scrubbing, your teeth will be better off than if you ate your candy over the course of the next few weeks (or months). Take this as your formal invitation to eat candy for dinner tonight.
Happy Tooth Brushing Day! Remember to brush 2 times a day for 2 minutes!
